Joaquín Archivaldo Guzmán Loera

Joaquín Archivaldo Guzmán Loera (El Chapo) was born on 4th April 1957 in La Tuna, Sinaloa, Mexico. He had altogether nine siblings, three of which died when he was still young. He finished his education in the third grade. In the 1960s, he participated in planting marijuana with his family members. Two decades later he already was a member of Guadalajara Cartel, nevertheless, he had worked with cartel's head Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo already in the seventies. After Gallardo was arrested, El Chapo became the head of Sinaloa Cartel. At that time the cartel started using new methods devised by El Chapo. They built tunnels under the Mexico⁠–⁠USA border and were using chili pepper cans to hide drugs in them. In May 1993, the members of Tijuana Cartel tried to assassinate him at an airport. However, they accidentaly killed cardinal Juan Jesús Posadas Ocampo and several other people. That same year was Joaquín Archivaldo Guzmán Loera caught in Guatemala and extradited to Mexico. While in prison, he still managed his organization. In 2001 he escaped from Puente Grande prison in Jalisco, Mexico, which was a maximum-security prison. The escape cost was said to cost him $2.5 million. In 2004 the government of USA announced a $5 million reward for information leading to his arrest. Joaquín Archivaldo Guzmán Loera was caught again in 2014.
